Do Women Get Slighted By Servers in Restaurants?
Last week I wrote about the mathematics of ordering wine by the glass vs. wine by the bottle in restaurants - is it a rip-off? Read the text at http://womenandwine.blogs.com/women__wine/2008/11/do-the-math---buying-wine-by-the-glass-is-not-a-money-saving-strategy.html. This week, we've collaborated with Full Bottle Research to produce a survey to elaborate on people's wine buying habits in restaurants - both women and men - with the intention of sharing it with the public as well as restauranteurs. Over the years women have said to me things like "why do men get handed the wine list even if I'm hosting the meal" or "I ordered the wine but it was presented to the man". So we're getting more scientific (if that's the word) and will compile the results at the end of next week. The great part so far is that I've gotten hundreds of emails from women and men saying that it really made them examine this issue and that they are looking forward to seeing the results. Do women get worse service because the waiters think we're all cheap? Do men get more easily intimated by the sommelier so they quickly order something expensive to "prove" themselves? The answers to these questions and more remains to be seen. If you'd like to participate in the survey - or share it with your friends - please go to our site www.womenwine.com. If you participate, you'll be entered to win a cashmere travel throw (value $1000). Hope you're all following the math on wines by the glass... Have a great weekend.
